MTV onthult nominaties voor 2023 'Video Music Awards' ('VMA's')

Taylor Swift (8) staat dit jaar aan de leiding van de nominaties, op weg naar een herhaling van de 'Video of the Year' overwinning nadat ze vorig jaar records brak door de enige artiest te worden die drie keer heeft gewonnen in de felbegeerde categorie. Ze wordt op de voet gevolgd door SZA (6), Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo en Sam Smith (elk 5), en BLACKPINK, Diddy en Shakira (elk 4).

Dit jaar is er een recordaantal nieuw genomineerden voor de 'VMA's' (35 in totaal), met meerdere nieuwkomer nominaties als Kim Petras (5), Metro Boomin en Rema (beide 3), Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, Reneé Rapp en Yung Miami (elk 2). Andere artiesten die voor het eerst genomineerd worden zijn onder andere Aespa, boygenius, Burna Boy, Davido, Eslabon Armado, FLETCHER, FIFTY FIFTY, JVKE, Lauren Spencer Smith, Musa Keys, PinkPantheress, Saucy Santana, Stephen Sanchez en Toosii.

Vanaf vandaag kunnen fans stemmen op hun favorieten in 15 genderneutrale categorieën, waaronder de gloednieuwe categorie 'Best Afrobeats', plus de felbegeerde categorieën 'Video of the Year' en 'Artist of the Year', door tot en met vrijdag 1 september naar vote.mtv.com te gaan; het stemmen voor 'Best New Artist' blijft actief tot aan de show op dinsdag 12 september. Nominaties voor sociale categorieën waaronder 'Group of the Year' en 'Song of Summer' zullen op een later tijdstip bekend worden gemaakt.

De 2023 'VMA's' zullen terugkeren om de grootste namen in de muziek te vieren op dinsdag 12 september om 20.00 uur ET/PT met headline-genererende verrassingen, exclusieve optredens en een publiek vol fans LIVE vanuit het beroemde Prudential Center in New Jersey.
